Additional Information
  • Onsen are Japanese hot spring baths and are one of the restorative experiences available at the resort. MOMIJI HOT-SPRING at Karuizawa Prince Hotel West includes indoor and open-air baths.
  • Guests staying in hotel rooms have access to the onsen. Guests staying in cottages may also use the onsen for an additional facility fee and bathing tax, which Perennial will cover for Gathering participants. When cottage guests go to the onsen, staff will know to charge this to the room, and the cost will be billed to Perennial.
  • For participants who are new to onsen, the most important thing to know is that onsen are entered completely naked. Swimsuits, underwear, or clothing are not worn in the bathing area. This may feel unfamiliar for some guests, but it is a normal part of Japanese bathing culture.
  • Participants with tattoos should be aware that many onsen in Japan have restrictions around visible tattoos. If you have tattoos, please check with the hotel staff before entering the onsen. In some cases, small tattoos may need to be covered with a waterproof patch, while larger visible tattoos may affect access.
  • You will usually have two towels: a larger towel and a smaller towel. The larger towel is for drying off and should be left in the changing area. The smaller towel may be brought into the bathing area for modesty while walking, or placed on your head or around your shoulders while bathing. Please do not let the towel touch the bathwater.
  • Before entering the bath, wash and rinse your body thoroughly at the shower stations. Please move slowly, speak softly, and be mindful of the shared space.
  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided during the Gathering as part of the conference program.
  • Alcoholic beverages are not covered by Perennial during regular meals. A bar will be available at the resort, and participants are welcome to purchase drinks independently.
  • The only evening when drinks will be covered by Perennial is the Wednesday Closing Celebration. During that gathering, selected beverages will be provided as part of the program.
